What is a MidWife?

Todays certified nurse-midwife is a professional health care provider who has graduated from both nursing and midwifery programs and must pass a national certification examination through the American College of Nurse Midwives. She is credentialed to work with low risk women and provide prenatal, postpartum, normal newborn care and routine gynecological care in a variety of settings.

The goal is always safe personalized care. In NYS licensed midwives have prescriptive privileges and can work independently, so long as they have a collaborative arrangement with a physician for consultation and referral as needed. Many insurance carriers cover the services provided by Nurse Midwives.
